O'Neil She was in her high-school years when she took part in the auditions, auditioned for the third season of Canadian Idol within the early months of 2005. Judges loved her voice and she advanced into the Top 100 Round. O'Neil had received high praise from panel of judges. However, she suffered major defeats in the Top 10 week and Top 9 week of the finals. She was placed within the bottom three and then in the bottom two. The judges were awed by her performance and recommended viewers to select those who sing well, such as Melissa. O'Neil's performances were such awe-inspiring that she didn't even make it to the bottom three once again. O'Neil and her fellow contestants Rex Goudie and Werner gave two stunning performances in September of 2005. Werner reportedly said that headlines would say O'Neil was able to defeat Goudie and was the third Canadian Idol. She was the first female, and the youngest winner in Idol history. O'Neil's Canadian Idol triumph was announced by President Paul Martin immediately.
